NICHE at NNSDO July 12th (Posted 6/2008)

Holly Brown, MSN, GNP-BC, NICHE Practice Manager, and Sue Bikkie, RN, MSN, GNP-BC of Allina Unity Hospital will co-present Embedding Gerontologic Nurse Competence at the National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO) Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Their presentation, scheduled for the breakfast session from 8:30-10:30 am, will provide an overview of NICHE Resources for Staff Developers: "Resources and Strategies to Implement Geriatric Best Practices" (presented by Holly) and an exemplar NICHE program, GRIP: Geriatric Related-Care Improvement Program (presented by Sue). GRIP combines critical staff development initiatives with protocol implementation to improve the hospital experience and outcomes for older adults at Allina Unity, which is located in Fridley, Minnesota.

NNSDO is an important partner of the NICHE program, involved in informing NICHE educational content, and is also a member of the REASN (Resourcefully Enhancing Aging in Specialty Nursing) Program of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University. The NNSDO Conference provides up to date information on staff development knowledge, trends, and issues, and a wonderful networking opportunity.

 
 
NICHE Site and NICHE Program Prominently featured in Geriatric Nursing May/June Issue (Posted 6/2008)

Geriatric Nursing May/June Issue NICHE (Nurses Improving Care in HealthSystem Elders) Site Coordinator Rita LaReau, MSN, APRN, BC, GNP from Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI co-authored the featured article "Examining the Feasibility of Implementing Specific Nursing Interventions to Promote Sleep in Hospitalized Elderly Patients". "Quality of Geriatric Care Strengthened by NICHE Program", an article co-authored by Dr. Marie Boltz, NICHE Practice Director, PhD, RN, GNP, BC and colleagues, was prominently featured on this issue's cover.

NICHE is also highlighted on the journal cover as "Quality of Geriatric Care Strengthened by NICHE Program" co-authored by Dr. Marie Boltz and colleagues.

NICHE Site Recognized by ADVANCE FOR NURSES (Posted 6/2008)

The Geriatric Psychiatric Unit of NICHE site Frisbie Memorial Hospital, headed by Kristen Aleva, RN, was honored in a writing competition about unit teamwork. "The Greater Good"  appears in ADVANCE FOR NURSES.

 
2008 NICHe conferences (Posted 5/2008)

NICHE site nurses accepted into the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy (Posted 5/2008)

Several nurses from NICHE sites have been accepted into the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy awarded by Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing!

The purpose of the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy is to prepare and develop the leadership skills of nurses in leadership roles in their respective health care delivery settings to lead multidisciplinary teams that will improve the quality of health care to geriatric patients and their families. The Leadership Academy provides learning experiences that prepare and position the individual to influence patient and practice outcomes.

NICHE Site is Recipient of ACMA/Joint Commission Award (Posted 5/2008)

The ACMA and The Joint Commission formally presented the Franklin Award to the Care Management Department of Spectrum Health (Grand Rapids, Michigan) on April 29 at the 15th annual NICM Clinical Case Management Conference and 9th annual ACMA meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
